SITSENI – Hhohho Regional Member of Parliament Tanele Magagula says football plays a vital role in keeping young people away from drugs, crime and other harmful behaviour
She also donated E10 000 and a set of brand-new soccer kits to Sitseni Young Chiefs ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Mp made the remarks during the club’s pre-season gathering held at Sitseni Sports Ground on Saturday, July 25, 2026. The donation is aimed at supporting the team’s preparations for the upcoming Mdzimba Regional Football League season.
She said football keeps young people occupied and reduces the chances of them becoming involved in drug abuse, stealing and other criminal activities. She urged players to remain disciplined and committed both on and off the field.
The MP also commended older members of the community for investing their time and effort in nurturing young football talent.
“It is encouraging to see elderly people dedicating themselves to developing the youth because they are the future of this country,” she said.
Magagula said supporting grassroots football is an investment in the future, as it provides young people with opportunities to develop their talent while promoting discipline, teamwork and responsible citizenship.
Her message echoes calls previously made by leaders across the country who have encouraged communities to use football as a tool to fight drug abuse and crime while creating opportunities for young people to realise their potential.
House of Assembly Jabulani Mabuza said grassroots football helps keep young people away from crime and drug abuse while unveiling sponsorship for the Hhohho Regional Football Association. He added that such tournaments also provide a platform to discover talent at the grassroots level.
Mhlume Member of Parliament Sifiso Magagula said sponsoring football tournaments keeps young people active on weekends and away from illegal activities while helping develop football talent.
Sitseni Young Chiefs officials welcomed the donation, describing it as a timely boost as the club prepares for the 2026/27 Mdzimba Regional Football League campaign. They said the financial support and new playing kits will ease some of the team’s preparations for the new season.
