NGUDZENI- Ngudzeni Member of Parliament Charles Ndlovu has delivered a strong endorsement of Government’s accelerating road infrastructure programme in the Shiselweni Region, declaring it a decisive response to years of hardship faced by emaSwati.
The Member of Parliament made the remarks at Ngudzeni FEA Sports Ground on April 29, 2026, during a Teenage Pregnancy Awareness Campaign officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla.
He said the long-awaited road upgrades would transform mobility, unlock economic opportunities and restore dignity to communities that have struggled with poor road conditions, particularly during the rainy season.
“For years, our people have endured difficult conditions, with some areas becoming almost inaccessible when it rains. This intervention by Government is not just about roads — it is about improving lives and opening doors for development,” he said.
The MP’s remarks come as Government, through the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, advances a major milestone in infrastructure delivery following the signing of a construction contract for the upgrading of the Siphofaneni–Sithobela–Maloma–Nsoko (MR14) and Maloma–Siphambanweni (MR21) roads.
The project forms part of Phase I of the Eswatini Road Infrastructure Improvement Programme (ERIIP), financed by the African Development Bank, and is widely seen as a game-changer for the region’s connectivity and economic growth.
The contract was awarded to a joint venture between WBHO Construction and Stefanutti Stocks, with AG Thomas appointed as specialist subcontractor for pavement design and construction. The Ministry underscored that the award followed a rigorous and transparent procurement process conducted in full compliance with African Development Bank standards, ensuring fairness, accountability and value for money.
Beyond the core road works, the project carries significant social impact, incorporating bus shelters, pedestrian walkways, footbridges, roadside market stalls, and improved access to schools and health facilities directly benefiting communities along the corridor.
The Mp also paid tribute to complementary development efforts in the region, applauding Microprojects for its sustained contribution to grassroots development in rural communities. Service which Microprojects delivered include building suspended bridges.
In the same breath, the legislator used the platform to rally the nation against teenage pregnancy, calling for a united and urgent response from parents, communities and Government.
“Protecting our children is a shared responsibility. If we fail them, we fail the future of this country,” Ndlovu emphasised.
