MBABANE– Eswatini’s energy future is gaining strong momentum as the National Petroleum Company (NPC) continues to advance the Strategic Oil Reserve Facility (SORF) in Phuzumoya.
In a significant show of progress, NPC recently welcomed a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, and the Public Policy Coordination Unit to the construction site.
The visit offered stakeholders a detailed look at how far the project has come, including a guided tour highlighting key milestones already achieved. The engagement also created space for forward-looking discussions, with officials identifying ways to strengthen support and ensure the project remains on course within its 36-month timeline.
Once completed, the facility will boast an impressive storage capacity of 80 million litres—positioning Eswatini to significantly enhance its fuel security. This major investment is set to stabilise fuel supply, reduce exposure to global disruptions, and strengthen the country’s ability to respond effectively to market changes.
Beyond infrastructure, the project is already delivering tangible benefits to emaSwati. Construction activities are creating jobs while equipping local workers with valuable technical and engineering skills that will continue to benefit the nation well into the future.
Officials emphasised that the Strategic Oil Reserve Facility is more than just a storage project—it is a strategic pillar for national development. By strengthening energy systems, the initiative supports economic growth, improves service delivery, and contributes to long-term sustainability.
With steady progress on site and strong collaboration among stakeholders, the project is shaping up to become a cornerstone of Eswatini’s energy landscape—powering a more secure, resilient, and prosperous future.
