Eswatini’s very own Sethu Shongwe, affectionately known as Nenekazi, is gearing up to take the runway by storm at the highly anticipated Phakama Phumalanga Festival 2025 Fashion Show. Scheduled for November 1–2, 2025, at the picturesque Ngwenya Estate in White River, Mpumalanga, this event marks the third edition of the festival and promises to be a spectacular celebration of art, culture, and creativity.
The Phakama Phumalanga Festival is a vibrant and diverse annual outdoor event that celebrates the fusion of fine art, fashion, sculpting, and music. Dubbed “The Coachella of Mpumalanga,” the festival showcases regional talent while promoting African creativity and heritage. Nenekazi, a rising star in the fashion world, expressed her excitement about participating. “Attending this event makes me feel thrilled and honored. I’ll showcase the latest fashion trends, work with top designers, and network with industry professionals. While I might feel a bit nervous about strutting on the catwalk since it has been a while, it’s an exhilarating opportunity to boost my career,” she said.
This marks Nenekazi’s second appearance at the festival, and she reflects warmly on her previous experience. “Last time was incredible, and I can’t wait to see how much I’ve grown as a model. The designs are stunning, and I know it’s going to be a night to remember!”
With over five years in the industry, Nenekazi acknowledges the whirlwind of her journey. “Time flies when you’re doing what you love. I’ve faced ups and downs, but the journey has been amazing. I’ve worked with incredible people, learned so much, and grown personally and professionally. I’m still pinching myself, feeling grateful for this wild ride.”
Nenekazi’s path to success has been filled with challenges, but her passion and perseverance have propelled her forward. “From struggling to make ends meet to becoming the model I am today, I’ve faced rejection and self-doubt. But with a strong support system, I’ve risen above the noise and achieved my dreams.”
