SITEKI – The newly elected Mayor of Siteki, Buyisakuthula Matsenjwa, has pledged a results-driven administration focused on job creation, crime reduction, and strengthened service delivery under a Nkwe approach aimed at improving the daily lives of residents.
Matsenjwa was elected during the annual mayoral elections held on May 11, 2026, after emerging unopposed when Simphiwe Dlamini, who had initially been nominated alongside him, declined the nomination. The uncontested outcome has been widely viewed as a sign of unity and stability within the council.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Eswatini Positive News, Matsenjwa said the outcome reflects a cooperative spirit among councillors that will support faster development in the town.
“This uncontested election reflects strong unity among councillors. Working together will help us deliver meaningful development for Siteki,” he said.
He added that political stability plays a key role in attracting investment and driving economic growth. “Investors are discouraged by leadership instability. Stability is essential if we are to attract and sustain investment in Siteki,” he said.
A major focus of his administration will be tackling youth unemployment through investor engagement and entrepreneurship support. “My priority is reducing youth unemployment by attracting investment and creating job opportunities,” said Matsenjwa. “We must also empower young people to start and grow their own businesses.”
On service delivery and safety, the mayor linked environmental management to crime prevention, saying neglected public spaces contribute to insecurity.
“Keeping the town clean and clearing overgrown areas will help reduce crime,” he said. “Service delivery is central to building safer and more dignified communities.”
He also highlighted infrastructure development as a key pillar of his term, covering both public amenities and private development.
Matsenjwa described his leadership style as servant-based, emphasising close collaboration with councillors and residents.
“My approach is servant leadership. We will work closely with councillors who represent residents to ensure that decisions reflect the needs of the people,” he said.
He concluded by assuring residents of a responsive and action-oriented administration. “Residents of Siteki should expect swift and effective ‘Nkwe’ responses to the challenges they face,” he said.
Meanwhile, Samson Bongi Tsabedze retained his position as deputy mayor, while Simphiwe Dlamini was elected chairperson of the finance committee.
The new leadership is expected to focus on job creation, improved service delivery, crime reduction, and strengthening Siteki’s investment appeal.
