LUSHIKISHINI – Residents of Lushikishini, Mofu and surrounding communities are set to enjoy safer and more reliable access to clinics, schools and other essential services following Montigny’s E200 000 investment to rehabilitate the 12-kilometre Lushikishini-Mofu road.
The company-funded infrastructure project is expected to improve mobility for hundreds of residents while easing the movement of goods and services in the area. For many years, the road has posed serious challenges, particularly during the rainy season when it became virtually impassable, disrupting access to healthcare, education and public transport.
Montigny Block Manager Bongani Dlamini, speaking on Eswatini TV News, said the rehabilitation project reflects the company’s commitment to improving the lives of communities in areas where it operates.
“Our goal is to make sure this road remains passable throughout the year so that community members can easily access clinics, schools and other essential services,” said Dlamini.
He said the project would not only improve the daily lives of residents but also enhance the company’s operations by providing a more reliable route for transporting its products.
Dlamini also called on community members to support the initiative by working closely with the company throughout the rehabilitation process.
“We want to work hand in hand with the community because this project is for everyone’s benefit. By working together, we can ensure that it delivers lasting value to the people who depend on this road every day,” he said.
Before the rehabilitation project, residents often found themselves cut off whenever heavy rains damaged the road, making it impossible for public transport and private vehicles to pass. The poor condition of the route also resulted in frequent vehicle suspension damage, forcing motorists to spend thousands of emalangeni on repairs.
Upon completion, the upgraded road is expected to provide year-round accessibility, improve road safety and significantly reduce travel times for residents travelling to clinics, schools, businesses and other key destinations. The improved infrastructure is also expected to stimulate local economic activity by facilitating the efficient movement of goods while strengthening connectivity between communities.
The E200 000 investment underscores Montigny’s continued commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable rural development. By investing in infrastructure that benefits both communities and industry, the company is helping to build resilient communities, improve access to essential services and contribute to Eswatini’s long-term socio-economic development.
