MANZINI – Ngwane Park High School and Charles Wesley High School emerged as the top-performing institutions at the ESRIC Schools Darts Championships after finishing tied at the summit of the overall team standings with 109 points each.
The closely contested championships showcased some of the country’s finest young darts talent, with Mhlatane High School completing the top three with 79 points. Ngwane Park’s B team finished fourth overall with 62 points, while Kalamdladla High School rounded off the top five on 58 points.
In the individual categories, Ngwane Park dominated the Under-15 Girls division as Senzelwe F. claimed the title ahead of Lindelihle of Charles Wesley High School. Mhlatane High School’s Akhona and Thandeka shared third place.
The Under-15 Boys competition was won by Awande of Swazi National High School, while Ngwane Park’s Mukelo secured second position. Bakhile of Ngwane Park and Asimbonge of Mhlatane High School finished joint third.
Swazi National High School also celebrated success in the Under-18 Girls category through Phawulethu, who secured first place. Ngwane Park’s Mercy settled for second position, while Lusanda of Swazi National and Lethokuhle of Elangeni High School shared third place honours.
Ngwane Park continued their impressive showing in the Under-18 Boys division, sweeping the top two positions through Phinda and Sesinaye respectively. Lundi of Mhlatane High School and Mlungisi of Charles Wesley High School finished in joint third place.
The team standings reflected the competitiveness of the tournament, with Swazi National’s A team finishing fifth on 55 points, followed by Elangeni A on 44 points and Swazi National B on 43 points. Charles Wesley B accumulated 40 points, Mhlatane B ended on 38 points, while Elangeni B recorded 25 points.
St Mary’s A and B teams each finished with 15 points, while Elangeni C rounded off the standings with five points.
The championships highlighted the growing popularity of darts in schools, with learners from various institutions displaying impressive skill, composure and accuracy on the oche as they battled for top honours.
