NHLANGANO– Nhlangano Best Braai is set to place community welfare and support for elderly citizens at the heart of a new initiative aimed at strengthening giving back in the Shiselweni region.
Scheduled for October 31 2026 at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium, the initiative was officially launched at Nhlangano Park on August 24 2026 through a partnership between the Nhlangano Town Council and Philani Maswati Charity Organisation.
The event will raise funds towards assisting elderly members of the community, while creating an opportunity for businesses, organisations and members of the public to contribute towards a social cause.
The launch was attended by Her Majesty the Indlovukazi and featured a special moment when an elderly citizen received a gift presented by Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Hon. Bongani Nzima, together with Philani Maswati Charity Organisation Executive Chairman Lutfo Dlamini.
Speaking during the launch, Minister Nzima encouraged the people of Shiselweni to take ownership of the initiative and called on Emaswati from different parts of the country to support the event.
Nzima said the initiative also forms part of efforts that can help strengthen Nhlangano’s position as a town that attracts people through meaningful community activities. He highlighted the recent Nhlangano Half Marathon and the upcoming Best Braai as examples of initiatives that can attract visitors, create opportunities for local businesses and contribute to the town’s economic growth.
Dlamini thanked Nhlangano for making history through the launch of the Nhlangano Best Braai, saying the initiative reflects the spirit of the town as a place of meeting, unity and community. He also announced the Siphila Nabo Clothes Donation initiative, which will run alongside the Best Braai.
The initiative will encourage members of the public to donate clothes for vulnerable people in the community. Collection points will be established at schools and municipal facilities, with donated clothing distributed to communities in need.
It will feature a range of activities, including a community braai, boxing, prizes and an evening programme featuring Maskandi music. However, these activities form part of a wider initiative centred on raising support for elderly citizens and encouraging community participation.
Through the Nhlangano Best Braai and Siphila Nabo Clothes Donation initiative, organisers are encouraging Emaswati to make giving back a shared responsibility while supporting vulnerable members of the community.
