DURBAN— Gospel singer Nothando Hlophe shared a deeply personal journey of faith during a heartfelt interview on Sunday, 11 April 2026, on Gagasi FM’s Morning Devotion with Linda Sibiya.
The interview centred on her spiritual connection with God, where host Linda Sibiya asked when she chose to follow her faith. Nothando responded openly, saying, “I chose God at an early age.”
Reflecting on her upbringing, she said, “My granny would get upset if I didn’t go to church. She would remind me the whole year that it was because I stopped attending. Even if I didn’t do some house chores such as washing dishes”,she would still bring it up.”
She emphasised how deeply rooted her faith is, adding, “Moving away from God is the end of life for me.” She continued, “I had to praise God because I really don’t have a plan B. Even now, when I do wrong, God calls me back.”
In a surprising and exclusive revelation, she shared, “I grew up in the Zion church, by the way, and this is my first time saying it, right here at Gagasi FM.”
Nothando also spoke about her musical journey, revealing that her talent began to show while she was still in school. “In high school, I entered music competitions and I won,” she said. Despite her success, she admitted to struggling with confidence. “I was very shy and afraid to join the praise team, but that is where my talent and potential were built.”
During the lively conversation, Sibiya asked if she wrote her song “Yebo Nemshado Siyawumukela.” Laughing, she confirmed, “Yes, I did,” before singing a part of the song live on air.
She went on to explain the deeper meaning behind it, saying, “We often forget to thank God after He has blessed us. We receive and move on without going back to say thank you.” Using her own moment as an example, she added, “Being here at Gagasi FM today means I owe God a thank you.”
Nothando explained that the song goes beyond material things. “It is about saying thank you, Lord, for everything beautiful you have done, not just marriage or money, but also for the gift of life.”
The interview ended on a joyful note, with both Nothando and Sibiya dancing and singing along to her popular song “Methodist Medley,” leaving listeners inspired and uplifted.
