MBABANE – The cloud of speculation surrounding the authorship of the highly anticipated gospel song Mmeli Wami has finally lifted, with HRH Nothando Hlophe and songwriter Mzo Dlamini publicly affirming that the project is built on collaboration, mutual respect and rightful recognition.
The clarification follows widespread social media allegations claiming that Hlophe had taken credit for a song that did not belong to her. However, a joint statement released by both parties has dismissed those claims, confirming that Mmeli Wami is a collaborative work in which each artist owns and is credited for their respective contribution.
Hlophe’s manager and media personnel, Phindokuhle Sithole, said it was important to publicly address the matter to ensure the truth reached supporters.
“It was important to provide clarity and ensure that the facts were communicated correctly. From the beginning, our intention was to honour the rightful owner and make sure everyone involved receives the recognition they deserve. The joint statement reflects exactly that,” Sithole said.
He explained that despite the accusations circulating online, the team remained confident because discussions with the original songwriter had already begun behind the scenes.
“We remained calm because we knew the truth. At no point did Nothando ever claim that Mmeli Wami was entirely her song. We took the time to find the owner, opened communication and worked together. Unfortunately, many people didn’t know those conversations were already taking place. We’re grateful we were able to resolve everything respectfully,” he added.
According to the official statement, Mzo Dlamini wrote and owns the chorus, while the verses performed by HRH Nothando Hlophe were written by Hlophe herself, with both creative contributions forming an integral part of the song.
Sithole said the experience carries an important lesson for the music industry, particularly regarding collaboration and protecting creative work.
“We hope this reminds artists that collaboration should always be built on honesty, respect and proper credit. Creative work is valuable, and when everyone is acknowledged fairly, it strengthens relationships and the industry as a whole,” he said.
With the controversy now put to rest, attention has shifted back to the music itself. Sithole revealed that fans can expect a special release, although an official date has not yet been announced.
“Fans can look forward to a very special song. At this stage we don’t have a confirmed release date because the project is being handled by Spirit Music. Our focus is on ensuring all the necessary paperwork is completed so that everyone is properly credited before the song is officially released,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to supporters who stood by the project throughout the controversy.
“We sincerely thank everyone who has continued to support us throughout this journey. Your patience, prayers and encouragement mean a great deal, and we can’t wait to share Mmeli Wami with you at the right time,” Sithole said.
The clarification is expected to reassure fans and redirect public attention to the message of unity, integrity and worship that Mmeli Wami aims to deliver, with supporters now eagerly awaiting its official release.
