MBABANE— The OGF Poetry Awards, is expanding its impact by creating opportunities for poets and strengthening the creative industry in Eswatini.
Established in 2025, the awards were created to address gaps in the local poetry space. “The OGF Poetry Awards were born out of a deep recognition that while Eswatini has an abundance of poetic talent, there were limited structured platforms that both celebrate and elevate poets.” Said Anthonimass. The initiative aims to provide consistent recognition, professional exposure, and strong community-building. It also seeks to position poetry as “a respected and impactful art form in the country.”
Now in its second edition, the awards promise a bigger and improved experience. Anthonimass explained, “This year, we’ve been very intentional about growth.” Audiences can expect “a more refined and engaging production, intentional categories, and stronger partnerships.” The event will also introduce more audience interaction, improved judging transparency, and a stronger digital presence to amplify poets beyond the event itself.
The platform continues to support both emerging and established poets.“We’ve designed the platform to intentionally spotlight emerging voices alongside established ones.” He said. This includes dedicated categories for upcoming poets, fair judging panels, and equal promotion for all nominees. The focus remains on ensuring that “talent, authenticity, and impact are what truly stand out.”
Youth participation is a key priority for the awards. Emphasising its importance, “Youth participation is absolutely essential.” He noted that young creatives bring “fresh perspectives, bold storytelling, and a willingness to challenge norms,” which are important for the growth of poetry. By including students, the platform is helping to shape the future of storytelling in Eswatini.
Looking ahead, the vision is long-term and impactful. Anthonimass shared, “Our vision goes far beyond awards.” He added that the goal is to build a creative ecosystem where poets can grow sustainable careers and influence national narratives. Ultimately, the aim is to create a legacy that “continues to empower generations.”
