MANZINI- You may know the song. Now it is time to know the man behind it. As “Wo Lo” continues to make its way across playlists, dance floors and social media, one of the artists behind the hit, Mihlali The Guy, is heading to Eswatini for Simunye Fest.

The track has been making serious moves since its release in June, with Mihlali The Guy, Dankie Boi, Mr Thela and Cairo CPT joined by Sino Msolo and Konke. Released on June 26, the song has steadily climbed the South African music charts, showing that its reach is stretching well beyond the dance floor.

By the end of September, “Wo Lo” had reached number six on the YouTube Music Top Songs chart in South Africa, recording more than 1.1 million views in the chart week. It also held the number six position on Apple Music’s South African Top Songs chart.

The momentum has continued into October. On October 3, “Wo Lo” was still sitting at number three on the South African YouTube Daily Chart, with more than 649 000 streams recorded in the period tracked.

For listeners who know the song but perhaps not the name behind it, Mihlali The Guy is one of the artists helping drive its sound. The collaboration brings together elements associated with South Africa’s evolving gqom and electronic music scene.

The official music video, released on September 18, has also extended the song’s run, giving “Wo Lo” another platform as its popularity continues to grow. Now, the artist gets an opportunity to step out from behind the hit and meet listeners in person when he appears at Simunye Fest, taking place from October 23 to 25 at Vuvulane Sports Ground.

For fans who have been dancing to “Wo Lo” without necessarily knowing the artist behind it, Simunye Fest could provide a different introduction  seeing Mihlali The Guy bring the music from their screens and speakers to a live stage.
