MBABANE – Eswatini-based creative platform Only Make Waves is redefining digital distribution by supporting musicians, writers, filmmakers and visual artists under one ecosystem.
As digital platforms continue shaping the global creative economy, most distribution services still focus on one category of art. Music platforms distribute music, publishing services focus on books, while visual art and film are often separated into different systems. Only Make Waves is taking a different direction by creating a platform that supports multiple artforms in one space. Founded in Eswatini, the platform combines distribution, exhibition, publishing and artist development to help creatives grow and monetise their work internationally.
Although many people know the platform for music distribution, its services now extend to fine arts, short films and creative writing. Each category uses a distribution model designed specifically for that medium. For musicians, the platform allows artists to upload singles, EPs and albums for distribution to major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Deezer and TikTok music libraries. Through this system, artists are able to reach global audiences while also earning royalties from streams and downloads.
Only Make Waves approaches visual art differently by treating fine arts as part of a digital exhibition ecosystem. Artists can upload paintings, photography, illustrations and mixed media works for online showcasing and discovery. The goal is to give African visual artists wider international exposure without relying only on physical galleries and exhibitions.
The platform also focuses on short film distribution by creating a dedicated online hub for independent filmmakers. Instead of allowing short films to disappear among social media uploads, Only Make Waves aims to provide long-term visibility, audience discovery and structured presentation for filmmakers.
Creative writers are also included within the ecosystem. Writers can distribute poetry, novels, essays and short stories through digital publishing pathways linked to online reading marketplaces and e-book systems. One of the platform’s strongest messages is artistic sustainability. Only Make Waves believes creative work should go beyond exposure and become financially sustainable through royalties, licensing, publishing and ownership opportunities.
