MBABANE – Eswatini has recorded a strong and encouraging performance during the recent festive season, welcoming over 140 000 tourists from across the region and beyond.
This positive outlook was shared by Eswatini Tourism Authority (ETA) Chief Executive Officer, Vusi Dlamini, who reflected on the country’s tourism performance during a period that coincided with the annual Incwala ceremony.
Speaking to Eswatini TV, Dlamini revealed that a total of 140 453 tourists visited the country during the festive season, many of whom had the opportunity to witness Incwala, one of Eswatini’s most significant cultural events. Over the years, Incwala has continued to draw growing international interest, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the Kingdom’s rich traditions, heritage and living culture.
Dlamini noted that the number of visitors this festive season showed a notable improvement compared to the same period last year. According to the Tourism Authority, arrivals increased by approximately 25 percent, reflecting renewed confidence in Eswatini as a preferred travel destination. He added that a full assessment of tourism performance for the entire year is still underway, suggesting that overall figures could be even more promising.
The majority of visitors came from within the Southern African region, with South Africa and Mozambique accounting for a significant share of arrivals. Dlamini explained that about 92 percent of tourists originated from Southern Africa, highlighting Eswatini’s strong regional appeal and accessibility.
Beyond Incwala, visitors also explored various tourist attraction sites and events across the country, contributing to local economic activity and supporting businesses in the hospitality and tourism sectors. The festive season provided an opportunity for tourists to experience Eswatini’s natural beauty, cultural diversity and welcoming communities.
Importantly, feedback from tourists was overwhelmingly positive. Dlamini shared that many visitors expressed appreciation for the peace, safety and respect they experienced while in the country. Eswatini’s reputation as a calm and hospitable destination continues to play a key role in attracting repeat and first-time visitors alike.
These encouraging figures underscore the resilience and potential of Eswatini’s tourism sector. As cultural events like Incwala continue to gain international recognition, and as regional travel strengthens, Eswatini is steadily positioning itself as a must-visit destination that offers authentic experiences, cultural depth and a warm welcome to all who cross its borders.
