MBABANE– Efforts to address unemployment while strengthening essential service delivery are gaining traction in Eswatini, with On The Spot Investments playing a growing role in job creation, skills development, and industry innovation.
Established more than a decade ago, the company was founded in response to the country’s rising unemployment rate, with a deliberate focus on creating opportunities for mostly unskilled emaSwati. Through structured training programmes offered at no cost, individuals are equipped with practical skills and absorbed into the workforce as opportunities arise. This model has enabled the business to contribute meaningfully to livelihoods while maintaining a service-driven approach.
The company has evolved into a diversified service provider, offering commercial and industrial cleaning, post-construction cleaning, road cleaning, and the supply of cleaning materials. Its pest control services include fumigation, rodent and insect control, as well as agricultural drone spraying. Innovation has also extended to improved crop spraying systems, contributing to the development of the agricultural sector.
Significant growth was recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic, when demand for hygiene services increased. During this period, the company employed more than 40 emaSwati, strengthening its footprint in the cleaning and pest control industry. Its work at Buhleni Plaza, regarded as the cleanest plaza in the country, stands as a strong benchmark of quality and consistency.
Employee development and retention remain central to operations. Continuous training, supported by dedicated specialists and supervisors, ensures high service standards, while regular performance assessments help upskill workers and maintain efficiency. Several employees have remained with the company for years, with a group set to reach seven years of service in November 2026.
While sourcing labour for short-term assignments remains a challenge, the company has adopted a flexible workforce model that allows employees to move between projects, ensuring ongoing work opportunities.
Looking ahead, the company is focusing on adopting advanced technologies, expanding into industrial cleaning, and growing its brand, moves expected to broaden its service scope and create more employment opportunities.
