MANZINI – Actress Phindile Mashabane, popularly known as Phindy The Real Queen, has encouraged learners and drama teachers to continue nurturing the arts while preserving the use of Siswati in theatrical productions.
Phindy shared her message during the Inyatsi Schools Arts & Culture Drama & Theatre Competitions held at Divine Healing Ministries in Manzini, where she praised the creativity and talent displayed by pupils from different schools.
The actress, known for her roles as maDlamini on Uzalo and Dorris on Isitha: The Enemy, encouraged drama teachers to incorporate more Siswati into their plays, highlighting the importance of language in keeping culture and identity alive.
She said theatre is not only about entertainment but also a powerful tool for storytelling, education and preserving heritage. Drama teachers need to continue bringing more Siswati into these plays because our language carries our stories, our culture and who we are she encouraged.
Phindiy who is also the founder of Rise Mpumalanga Talent, expressed her excitement after witnessing the performances by the young learners, saying the talent showcased proved that Eswatini has a wealth of creative potential.
She said seeing the confidence and dedication from the pupils reminded her of the importance of creating platforms where young people can discover and develop their talents. “I love what I saw from the pupils. Eswatini has talent, and these young people just need support and opportunities to grow,” she said.
While encouraging learners to pursue their passion for drama and theatre, Phindy also reminded them of the importance of education. She advised pupils to remain committed to their studies, explaining that education provides a foundation they can rely on should their journey in the arts change in the future.
She encouraged young performers to balance their love for the arts with academic success, noting that having an education creates more opportunities and prepares them for different paths.
Phindy’s message added to the celebration of 40 years of legacy through the Inyatsi Schools Arts & Culture programme, which continues to provide a platform for learners to showcase creativity, cultural expression and storytelling through the arts.
