PIGG’S PEAK— Pigg’s Peak is set to come alive on 28 and 29 August 2026 as the Pigg’s Peak Town Council hosts a two-day Flea Market aimed at boosting local businesses, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs and encouraging residents to support the local economy.
Held under the catchy theme “Shop • Sell • Support Local,” the Flea Market will take place at Street Below PEP Stores, providing traders with a central and accessible platform to showcase their products and connect directly with customers.
According to the Pigg’s Peak Town Council, the initiative was inspired by the need to create greater exposure for local traders, entrepreneurs and small businesses while bringing shoppers and sellers together in one vibrant marketplace.
The Council believes that creating such platforms can help stimulate economic activity in the town by encouraging residents and visitors to spend locally.
“Shop • Sell • Support Local” is therefore more than just an event slogan. It is a call for the entire community to play a role in strengthening the local economy.
The Council says shopping locally allows money to circulate within the community, giving businesses an opportunity to grow while creating potential livelihoods and opportunities for entrepreneurs.
A MARKET FOR EVERYONE
Visitors to the Flea Market can expect a diverse range of products and services, including fashion, thrift clothing, crafts, food products, beauty and personal care products, artwork, accessories, household items and other entrepreneurial offerings.
Young entrepreneurs and small businesses have also been encouraged to take advantage of the platform to test their products, interact with customers, build brand awareness and gain valuable experience in selling and marketing.
The Council says the response from traders during registration has been encouraging, demonstrating the demand for platforms that connect local businesses with customers.
Although the final number of exhibitors will depend on completed registrations, the Council is expecting a good representation of local vendors and small businesses.
PREPARING FOR A SAFE AND ORDERLY EVENT
With the Flea Market expected to attract shoppers, traders and visitors, the Council says preparations are also focused on ensuring a clean, safe and well-organised event.
Letters have been sent to key stakeholders who may be affected by the event, including transport operators, nearby shops and the Pigg’s Peak Police, with the aim of supporting crime prevention and public safety.
The Council will also issue a public notice informing residents that the street will be closed for the two-day event.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to cooperate with officials, maintain cleanliness and act responsibly throughout the event.
BOOSTING PIGG’S PEAK’S ECONOMIC APPEAL
Beyond buying and selling, the Council sees the Flea Market as part of broader efforts to promote Pigg’s Peak as a vibrant business and tourism destination.
By bringing traders and shoppers together, the event is expected to increase economic activity, promote locally available products and encourage people to spend within the town.
The Council also believes that events of this nature can contribute towards creating a lively town environment that attracts visitors while giving local entrepreneurs an opportunity to grow.
As Pigg’s Peak prepares for the two-day marketplace, the Council is calling on residents, visitors and businesses to come out in numbers and embrace the spirit of supporting local enterprise.
For traders, it is an opportunity to sell. For shoppers, it is an opportunity to discover. And for the community, it is an opportunity to support the local economy.
Shop. Sell. Support Local.
