PIGG’S PEAK- Pigg’s Peak Town Council joined government leaders, private sector partners, and community changemakers at the 3rd Responsible Tourism Conference hosted by Piggs Peak Hotel reaffirming a shared commitment to turning ideas into measurable impact.
The conference brought together diverse voices focused on one central goal which is building a tourism sector that creates real benefits for communities, businesses, and visitors alike. A highlight of the event was made by the Mayor Sipho Shongwe, who outlined Council’s bold vision to position Pigg’s Peak as a preferred tourism destination in the Northern Hhohho region.
The Mayor described tourism as more than an industry, calling it a powerful engine for local development, opportunity, and inclusive prosperity. He shared Council’s ambition to transform Pigg’s Peak into a technological innovation hub that drives economic growth while strengthening tourism.
The vision, he explained, is already being translated into action. Council is investing in roads, signage, and public amenities to improve accessibility and readiness for visitors and events. Safety and cleanliness remain priorities, ensuring a welcoming environment for both residents and tourists.
The Mayor also highlighted the importance of partnerships. Through a Memorandum of Understanding signed with Piggs Peak Hotel in January 2025, Council has collaborated on tourism initiatives that are already yielding results. Among these is the successful co-hosting of the Temasiko Cultural Festival in partnership with Eswatini Arts and Culture. Attention is now turning to the upcoming Tibongo Event scheduled for May, expected to further elevate the town’s tourism profile.
Pigg’s Peak’s natural and heritage attractions were also recognised as key assets, including Phophonyane Falls and Ecolodge, the historic town of Bulembu, and the unique character of Pigg’s Peak itself.
Another strong theme of the conference was sustainability. The town’s reputation as a “green” municipality reflects ongoing waste reduction strategies, environmental awareness campaigns, and efforts to protect wetlands and indigenous species.
Honest discussions throughout the day addressed accountability, implementation, and ensuring tourism growth remains inclusive. The message was clear: the future of tourism in Pigg’s Peak depends on collaboration, innovation, and shared responsibility. With strong leadership and committed partners, that future looks bright.
