TSAMBOKHULU– Demonstrating its continued commitment to environmental sustainability and community development, Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation (RES), through its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme, donated six waste bins together with fruit and indigenous trees to Tsambokhulu Nazarene Primary School.
The donation forms part of the corporation’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental conservation while encouraging communities to take ownership of creating cleaner, greener and healthier surroundings.
Speaking during the handover ceremony on July 10, 2026, RES Corporate Social Investment Officer Coaster Kunene said the initiative was aimed at empowering schools and surrounding communities to embrace environmental stewardship.
“Our purpose today is not only to deliver these waste bins and trees but also to encourage and empower the community to take care of the environment around them. By planting trees and properly managing waste, we can all contribute towards creating a cleaner, healthier and safer environment for both present and future generations,” said Kunene.
Furthermore, he encouraged learners and teachers to work together in nurturing the trees and ensuring that the waste bins are used responsibly, adding that environmental protection is a shared responsibility that requires collective action.
According to RES, the donated fruit trees are expected to provide long-term nutritional benefits to the school while also enhancing its landscape. The indigenous trees will contribute towards improving biodiversity and increasing green cover, while the waste bins are intended to promote proper waste disposal and improve sanitation within the school premises.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the school, Headteacher Dumisani Ndwandwe expressed heartfelt appreciation to RES for extending a helping hand to the institution, describing the gesture as both timely and meaningful.
He explained that the school is located in a remote area with poor road infrastructure, making it uncommon for organisations and well-wishers to visit or provide assistance.
“It is very rare for us to receive visitors who come all the way to our school simply to check on us, let alone bringing valuable donations that will benefit our learners. Because of our location and the poor state of the roads leading here, many people rarely visit us. Today’s gesture by Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation means a great deal to us, and we sincerely appreciate their kindness and concern,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ndwandwe appealed to other companies and organisations to emulate RES’s example by supporting schools in underserved communities.
He further noted that many learners at the school come from underprivileged families and face numerous challenges, including a shortage of school uniforms.
As such, he appealed to corporate organisations, development partners and members of the public to consider assisting the school with uniforms and other essential learning resources to help create a more conducive learning environment.
The donation reflects RES’s continued dedication to investing in communities through initiatives that promote education, environmental sustainability and improved livelihoods. Through its Corporate Social Investment programme, the corporation continues to partner with communities by implementing projects that make a lasting and meaningful impact.
The event concluded with the symbolic handover of the waste bins and tree seedlings, followed by words of appreciation from the headteacher, who pledged to care for the donated items and ensure they benefit both current and future generations of learners.
