EZULWINI – In the fast-moving world of club music, few artists can command a stage with the physical and rhythmic precision of Nosimilo Dlamini, known professionally as Sergy.

Based in the hills of Nyonyane, Ezulwini, Sergy is changing the game for deck-spinners by mixing her professional dance skills with a high-energy sound that has already taken her across the globe.

Sergy’s move into the DJ booth was a natural step. After years on professional stages as a dancer and entertainer, she learned exactly how movement and sound work together. In 2016, she officially picked up the headphones, driven by a desire to steer the energy of a crowd from behind the decks.

“I saw that picking the right song and hitting the right timing could move people just as much as a dance routine,” she says. “I wanted the freedom to tell stories through sound and build nights that people never forget.”

A Mix of Rhythm and Roots

Playing mostly Afro-house, 3atep, Afro-tech, and commercial Afro-fusion, Sergy’s sound stays true to her African heritage. She draws heavy inspiration from legends like Black Coffee, Shimza, Cairo, and Zakes Bantwini, who found a way to bridge traditional culture with modern beats.

What makes her stand out in a busy industry is her performance-heavy style. “I don’t just play music—I perform it,” the Ezulwini star explains. Her time as an entertainer helps her connect with the crowd in a physical way, bringing a stage presence that turns a simple DJ set into a full show.

From Local Stages to Global Tours

Her rise has been fast. Between 2022 and 2024, Sergy became a regular face at the MTN Bushfire Festival, along with big sets at the Swazi Rally and the Maletsunyane Braai Festival in Lesotho.

Her talent has carried her through South Africa, Mozambique, Uganda, and Nigeria as a DJ. Beyond Africa, her skills have landed her on stages in Belgium, the Netherlands, and France, experiences she now uses to make sure every set she plays feels world-class.

Standing Tall in a Tough Industry

Working in a male-dominated field hasn’t been easy. Sergy admits that people sometimes doubt her technical skills or see her as a “novelty” act. Her answer has always been to work harder.

“I beat the noise by staying consistent and disciplined. I let my work do the talking,” she says. For other women looking to start DJing, she has clear advice: “Pray for your work, believe in what you can do, and don’t wait for someone else to tell you you’re good enough. Own your space—confidence matters just as much as skill.”

The Road to 2026

Looking ahead through 2026, Sergy wants to grow her brand even further overseas. Her big goals include playing major festivals in Europe and Africa while continuing to show the world what African women can do on a global stage. She also hopes to help younger female DJs find their footing in the industry.

With her mix of high-energy dance and sharp mixing, Sergy is no longer just a local name—she is a force to be watched.
