MANZINI– Shiselweni is preparing to turn up the cultural rhythm this weekend as music, traditional dance, drama and local talent come together for a full day of entertainment at the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium.
The regional celebration, known as Shiselweni Day, will take place on Saturday, August 8, beginning at 9am and continuing until late. The event will bring artists, dancers, cultural groups and communities together to celebrate the region’s heritage through performance and creativity.
While the day will carry a strong cultural focus, entertainment is expected to remain at the heart of the programme. Live music, traditional dance competitions, drama performances and regional awards will give performers from Shiselweni an opportunity to step into the spotlight and showcase their talents before a wider audience.
The celebrations will also feature a cultural parade, expected to add colour and movement to the day. Participants will gather at the Sikhuphe Entrance from 8am before making their way to the stadium in traditional attire.
For audiences, the parade will offer more than a colourful display. It is expected to set the mood for a day where traditional fashion, music and dance take centre stage while communities celebrate the stories and customs that shape the region.
A trophy parade will also form part of the programme, adding another lively moment to the packed schedule.
Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) representative mentioned that the event supports efforts to promote and preserve arts and culture in line with the Eswatini National Arts and Culture Policy.
Beyond the competitions and performances, Shiselweni Day will create space for local creatives to share their work and connect with audiences. It will also show how cultural events can bring together entertainment, heritage and community pride.
With dancers rehearsing, performers preparing and traditional attire expected to fill the stadium, Shiselweni Day is shaping up to be a colourful celebration where culture will not only be remembered but performed, shared and enjoyed.
