MANZINI– The stage is set to come alive with drama, emotion and cross-border creativity when Igazi, an international theatre production, takes centre stage at the Mbombela Civic Centre on August 15.
Hosted by Rise Mpumalanga Talent and led by Phindi Mashabane, popularly known as Phindy The Real Queen, the production will bring together performers from South Africa and Eswatini for a theatrical experience that places storytelling and talent in the spotlight.
The production’s title, Igazi, meaning “blood”, already hints at a story expected to carry emotion and intensity. However, beyond the drama unfolding on stage, the initiative is also creating a platform for young people to step into the world of theatre and experience the creative industry beyond their school environments.
Eswatini students from Swazi National High School and Ngomane Primary School will be part of the initiative, joining a wider group of artists and performers involved in the production. Their participation adds a youthful voice to a project that brings together education, culture and performance. With Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) supporting the initiative, contributing to Eswatini’s involvement in the cross-border production.
The cast includes Sifiso Sibiya, Patrick Mofokeng, Sendzosenkosi Mkhabela, Phindy The Real Queen, Joram Mkhatswa and Thulani Mtsweni, creating a line-up that brings different artistic voices onto one stage.
For audiences, Igazi will offer more than a day at the theatre. It will bring together performers, learners and creatives from across the border while giving young talent an opportunity to be part of a larger artistic production.
The show will run from 11am to 4pm at the Mbombela Civic Centre. Early-bird tickets are priced at R200, while general tickets cost R250. As the countdown continues, Igazi is shaping up to be a meeting point where theatre, culture and emerging talent share the same stage.
