MBABANE – Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa, President of the Eswatini Athletes Commission and former Olympian, recently attended the 12th IOC International Athletes’ Forum held in Lausanne, Switzerland, the Olympic Capital. This prestigious event, hosted by the IOC Athletes’ Commission at the SwissTech Convention Centre from 11–12 June 2025, is the largest global gathering of athlete representatives, uniting commissions from all Olympic sports and nations.
The forum provided a vital platform to discuss key issues affecting athletes worldwide and to strengthen the athlete voice within the Olympic Movement. Matsenjwa’s participation ensured that Eswatini’s athlete community was not only represented but actively engaged in shaping the future of sport on the global stage.
As a former Olympian, Matsenjwa embodies the powerful message that sport extends beyond competition. His involvement at the forum reaffirmed the role of sport in fostering unity, excellence, and empowerment. He demonstrated how athletes can continue to inspire and contribute meaningfully beyond their competitive careers, serving as a role model for current and future generations.
A highlight of the forum was a special dinner held at the Olympic Museum, where Matsenjwa took the opportunity to advocate passionately for road safety awareness. He emphasized that while athletes dedicate themselves to achieving excellence on the track, field, or court, their safety on the road is equally critical. Whether commuting to training sessions, competitions, or recreational runs, prioritizing road safety is essential to protect lives, preserve athletic careers, and secure the future of sport.
Matsenjwa’s presence and advocacy at the IOC International Athletes’ Forum underscore Eswatini’s commitment to global sports development and athlete welfare.
