MBABANE – The Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF) settled 183 claims worth E21.8 million during the first quarter while stepping up efforts to improve claims processing and promote road safety across the country.
Acting Chief Operations Officer Phindile Mthethwa revealed the figures during the Fund’s Quarter One Business Review Forum, where she shared operational updates on SMVAF’s performance during the quarter.
Of the E21.8 million settled, E14.9 million was paid directly to claimants, while E6.9 million was committed through claims undertakings.
Mthethwa said the Fund continues to improve its claims processing to reduce backlogs and ensure that claimants receive support more efficiently.
The progress forms part of SMVAF’s efforts to strengthen service delivery and ensure that road crash victims receive timely assistance.
The Fund is also intensifying its accident prevention efforts through road safety inspections, audits and awareness initiatives.
Quarterly data showed that pedestrian-related incidents, vehicle control issues and collisions remain among the leading causes of road accidents in the country.
The findings have reinforced the need for continued road safety education, responsible driving and stronger safety measures among motorists and other road users.
Mthethwa said the Fund’s road safety interventions remain critical in reducing accidents, protecting lives and promoting safer roads across the country.
Through its claims settlement and road safety programmes, SMVAF continues to support road crash victims while working to prevent accidents and build safer roads for all Emaswati.
