MBABANE – Former senator Sylvia Mthethwa has been appointed Vice President of the 50 Most Influential Women in Africa, marking a significant milestone in her leadership journey and contribution to women’s empowerment.
In addition to the appointment, Mthethwa also received a special recognition award in the same category, further affirming her growing influence on the continent.
The announcement was made during the African Women Leadership Conference held on April 20 and 21 in Freetown, Serria Leone, where prominent women leaders from across Africa gathered to celebrate excellence and share strategies for advancing gender equality.
Recognition of impact and commitment
Mthethwa’s recognition highlights her continued dedication to empowering women and promoting inclusive leadership both in Eswatini and across Africa. Her work has focused on creating opportunities for women, advocating for gender equality and supporting initiatives that uplift communities.
The Vice President role positions her among a network of influential women leaders working to drive change, strengthen collaboration and amplify the voices of women across the continent.
Speaking following the announcement, Mthethwa described the recognition as both an honour and a responsibility.

The 50 Most Influential Women in Africa platform aims to celebrate outstanding women leaders while fostering mentorship, leadership development and cross-border collaboration.
