MBABANE – Taiwan has expressed its gratitude to the Kingdom of Eswatini for facilitating President Lai Ching-te’s historic visit to the country in May, describing the warm reception accorded to the Taiwanese leader as a reflection of the enduring friendship between the two nations.
The appreciation was conveyed by Taiwan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Chen Ming-chi, during a meeting with the Kingdom of Eswatini’s Army Commander Mashikilisana Moses Fakudze and Minister of Public Service Mabulala Maseko in Taipei City on July 28.
According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Chen thanked the Government and people of Eswatini for the successful visit, noting that the hospitality extended by His Majesty King Mswati III and Her Majesty the Indlovukazi, Queen Mother Ntfombi Tfwala, demonstrated the deep and longstanding bond shared by the two countries.
The deputy foreign minister reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Eswatini, saying the Asian nation attaches great importance to its partnership with the Kingdom.
He highlighted ongoing development initiatives, including the Taiwan Industrial and Innovation Park project, as evidence of Taiwan’s continued support for Eswatini’s national development agenda.
Chen also called on the Government of Eswatini to deploy additional military attachés to Taiwan as part of efforts to deepen bilateral military cooperation and expand defence exchanges between the two friendly nations.
In response, Army Commander Fakudze and Minister Maseko commended the warm reception accorded to the Eswatini delegation and assured the Taiwanese government that Eswatini would identify suitably qualified personnel, particularly those who have received training in Taiwan, to serve as military attachés.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Eswatini and Taiwan have maintained diplomatic relations for 58 years, building a strong partnership founded on mutual trust, respect and extensive cooperation across various sectors.
The ministry added that it remains committed to advancing bilateral projects under Taiwan’s integrated diplomacy policy, with the aim of promoting sustainable development and shared prosperity for both countries.
