MBABANE – Taekwondo star Thandukukhanya Dlamini delivered a remarkable performance, securing a gold medal at the WLM Liverpool Championships held on Sunday.
Dlamini, who is based in England since 2019, competed in the senior male category in the under-74kg division. Representing the Wessex Taekwondo Association, he triumphed over Searle Ben, a competitor from the Warrior Factory Taekwondo Club. The tournament showcased talent from England, Great Britain, and Ireland.
Expressing his satisfaction with the outcome, Dlamini remarked on the significance of this victory, particularly as he had been sidelined for an extended period due to an injury.
“I participated in the WLM Liverpool Championships, which marked my return to competition after a lengthy hiatus due to injury. Winning a gold medal was exhilarating, especially since my opponent was from one of the clubs here in the UK,” he stated.
The tournament, which also featured female competitors, took place at 115 Upper Warwick Street, Liverpool. Dlamini trains under the guidance of Coach John Harrison at Wessex Taekwondo.
In a statement, Dlamini’s club, the Wessex Taekwondo Association, celebrated their success at the event. “It was a fantastic day in Liverpool today (April 9, 2025). All fighters delivered commendable performances, and we couldn’t be prouder of the team. As an added bonus, everyone returned home with a medal,” the statement read.
