MBABANE— Cabinet has approved a 62.5 percent increase in tuition fees for government-sponsored students at the University of Eswatini, raising the annual fee from E16 000 to E26 000 effective in August.
The decision, which was approved on Monday, March 2, 2026, is aimed at strengthening institutional sustainability, improving service delivery, and supporting long-term development at the university.
Purpose of the Adjustment
According to the official statement, “the adjustment is meant to help the university cover its costs and improve service delivery starting August.” The revised structure aligns the fees of government-sponsored students with those of privately sponsored students, creating uniformity within the institution.
Officials explained that the decision forms part of broader efforts to ensure financial stability and improve operational efficiency across university campuses.
Strengthening Service Delivery and Resources
Government authorities said the tuition review will help the university manage its resources more effectively and maintain academic standards. Improved financial planning is expected to support infrastructure development, enhance administrative systems, and strengthen academic programmes.
The adjustment is also intended to contribute to the institution’s long-term sustainability and continued growth in the higher education sector.
