MBABANE – The fight against illegal trafficking along Eswatini’s borders continues, with the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force showing determination to stay ahead of criminals who constantly change their tactics.
Between February 18 and 23, UEDF troops intercepted dagga (cannabis) worth over E108 750 at several border points, including Lavumisa, Lubombo, and Lushikishini.
The operations led to the arrest of five suspects, who, together with the illicit drugs, were handed over to the Royal Eswatini Police Service for further investigations.
In a separate operation near Big Bend, troops foiled an attempt at stock theft, recovering 35 goats packed into a vehicle. The seizure highlights how criminals are targeting livestock in addition to drugs, posing a threat to communities and national resources.
UEDF officials note that smugglers are adapting their methods changing routes, operating at night, and abandoning consignments to avoid capture. Despite these challenges, patrol teams continue to track and intercept illegal movements along the borders.
From Lavumisa to parts of the Lubombo, UEDF troops operate day and night, coordinating with the police to stay ahead of criminals. Authorities reassure the public that these operations aim to protect national property, secure the borders, and keep communities safe.
The UEDF has vowed to continue these efforts, sending a clear message to smugglers and stock thieves: Eswatini’s borders are closely watched, and no illegal activity will go unchecked.
