MALKERNS – Vulamasango Primary & High School on Friday, March 27,2026 transformed its premises into a powerful celebration of identity and resilience, as learners, educators and the broader school community gathered to commemorate Culture Day through a dynamic programme of traditional expression, storytelling and performance.
The event brought together the school community in a vibrant display of cultural pride, going beyond entertainment to address deeper issues affecting young people. At a time when many learners face social pressures and personal challenges, the celebration created a platform for self-discovery, healing and renewed confidence.
Dressed in colourful traditional attire, learners participated in poetry recitals, royal praises, indigenous music and dance, as well as cultural practices such as umtsimba and kubutseka. Traditional cuisine was also showcased, offering a broader appreciation of Eswatini’s rich heritage and strengthening cultural appreciation among students.
Educators highlighted that Culture Day plays a critical role in reinforcing values that guide behaviour and decision-making. Through storytelling and shared cultural experiences, learners were reminded of principles such as respect, discipline, responsibility and unity, which are essential for both personal growth and academic success.
The celebration also promoted inclusivity by bringing together learners from diverse backgrounds to appreciate each other’s traditions. This fostered social cohesion and strengthened a sense of belonging within the school environment, encouraging learners to embrace diversity with respect.
In preparation for the event, learners worked collaboratively, developing teamwork, communication and organisational skills. These experiences demonstrated the importance of learning beyond the classroom and applying knowledge in practical, real-life contexts.
