BHUNYA – Wakhile Zwane, one of the inaugural beneficiaries of the Montigny scholarship programme, has secured an opportunity to further her studies in Taiwan, marking a significant milestone in her academic journey.
Zwane, who was among the first beneficiaries of the Montigny scholarship programme launched in 2021, recently earned the opportunity to further her education abroad, marking another important step in her academic journey. Her achievement was celebrated during a courtesy visit by Zwane and her family to Montigny’s headquarters , where they formally expressed their appreciation to the company for the support she has received through the scholarship programme.
For her , the scholarship has provided support that allowed her to concentrate on her education without the added concern of meeting school-related financial obligations. Speaking during the visit, Zwane expressed her sincere appreciation for the scholarship, noting that the financial support relieved her of concerns about timely payment of school fees and enabled her to focus on her academic pursuits.
She also acknowledged Montigny’s sponsorship of educational trips, which she described as valuable opportunities that enriched her learning experience. She became a beneficiary of the scholarship programme in 2021 and was placed at Bhunya Usutu High School. She was selected with the assistance of head teachers from schools in the affected areas, who served as adjudicators during the selection process.
The scholarship programme was established by Montigny Board Chairman Prince Lonkhokhela in memory of two young pupils who tragically lost their lives in the Usutu River. The initiative was created to provide sustainable educational support to deserving students from the Bhunya community. It covers tuition fees, educational materials and a full school uniform for the five-year duration of high school education, from Form 1 to Form 5.
At the launch of the programme, Prince Lonkhokhela further committed to supporting beneficiaries’ tertiary education after completing high school, subject to sustained academic excellence and exemplary conduct. Zwane’s opportunity to study in Taiwan represents a significant progression from the support she received as a high school learner under the scholarship programme.
The company continues to implement the scholarship as part of its broader community development and corporate social responsibility initiatives, with education forming part of its investment in the development of young people. Montigny Chief Executive Officer Andrew le Roux congratulated Zwane on her achievement and wished her continued success in her future endeavours.
