MBABANE- Water management is entering a new era as Joint River Basin Authority- Project Board JRBA-PB introduces an innovative digital system called SIRH, designed to transform the way water resources are monitored and managed. The move marks a major step forward in improving efficiency, fairness, and sustainability in water governance.
The Joint River Basin Authority- Project Board (JRBA-PB) Communications officer, Wandile Zishwili said the main goal of the new system is to ensure the organisation has accurate, up-to-date information that allows quicker action, smarter planning, and better service delivery.
SIRH works by keeping all important water data in one central place. It records who is using water, where they are based, and what the water is being used for, whether it is farming, industrial production, or domestic supply. By doing this, the organisation can easily identify all users while reducing missing or incorrect records.
The system also maps where water is being drawn from, including rivers, dams, and boreholes. Each source is connected to a specific user, making it clear who is using water and from which location. This creates a more transparent and organised system that supports fair distribution of resources.
Another powerful feature of SIRH is its ability to monitor water volumes used by each permit holder. If a user exceeds their allowed amount or if a water source begins to face pressure, the system quickly raises attention. This enables JRBA-PB to respond early and help prevent shortages before they become serious.
Beyond monitoring, SIRH simplifies daily administration by automating permits, renewals, billing, and document generation. Tasks that once required time-consuming manual work can now be completed faster and with fewer errors.
JRBA-PB will now begin rolling out data validation processes to ensure all water users are properly registered and operating with valid permits. The system will also make it easier to identify areas requiring further investigation and address irregularities.
With SIRH now in place, JRBA-PB is embracing technology to build a smarter future for water management. The result will be stronger compliance, balanced allocation, and sustainable use of water resources for communities today and generations to come.
