MATSAPHA – Innovation, creativity and problem-solving took centre stage as 19 groups and individual participants showcased their digital health solutions during the Digital Wellness Pitch Day held at the Royal Science and Technology Park in Matsapha.
The event brought together young innovators from various institutions and backgrounds, all eager to demonstrate how technology can be used to address challenges within Eswatini’s healthcare sector.
Participants were tasked with identifying a real-world healthcare problem before developing and presenting a practical solution. Each group or individual then pitched their innovative idea before a panel of judges and an audience, highlighting the impact their solutions could have on communities across the country.
Beyond simply explaining their concepts, participants also showcased prototypes of their applications, giving judges a firsthand look at how the proposed solutions would function in practice.
The innovations covered a wide range of healthcare-related challenges, including blood donation management, mental health support, patient access to healthcare information, healthcare staffing, emergency response systems and communication between patients and healthcare practitioners.
Throughout the day, presenters demonstrated confidence and creativity as they explained the inspiration behind their projects and the steps taken to transform their ideas into working prototypes.
The Digital Wellness Pitch Day formed part of efforts to encourage young people to use technology and entrepreneurship to solve pressing social challenges while creating opportunities for future employment and economic growth.
Judges assessed the projects based on factors such as innovation, relevance, practicality, scalability and potential impact on the healthcare sector.
The event also highlighted the growing interest among young people in digital innovation, with participants demonstrating a strong understanding of how technology can be leveraged to improve healthcare service delivery and enhance the lives of ordinary citizens.
By the end of the competition, several projects stood out for their creativity and potential, but organisers emphasized that every participant had already achieved something significant by identifying a problem, developing a solution and confidently presenting their ideas to a public audience.
The showcase served as a reminder of the immense talent that exists among Eswatini’s youth and their ability to develop innovative solutions capable of shaping the future of healthcare.
