NOKWANE – Young Emaswati are encouraged to start preparing for the upcoming recruitment exercise by the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF), which is expected to take place later this year.
This was announced by His Majesty King Mswati III, who is also the Commander-In-Chief of the UEDF, on March 28 during the 25th edition of Army Day. The celebration was held at the UEDF Headquarters in Nokwane, where the military organisation also marked its 52nd anniversary.
According to His Majesty, the recruitment is necessary for the continued growth of the defence force. He emphasized the importance of young people joining the military to ensure continuity and development within the organisation.
“The youth of Eswatini should start preparing and keep fit so that when the UEDF begins its recruitment, they are ready to serve,” said the King. His announcement was met with thunderous cheers and praise from thousands of attendees.
The King expressed confidence that the recruitment will enhance the military’s ability to serve the nation and contribute to improving the lives of many Emaswati. He commended the soldiers for their efforts during recent heavy rains, where they provided assistance to affected communities.
His Majesty also encouraged members of the defence force to stay informed about global developments, especially to effectively participate in peacekeeping missions within the SADC region and across Africa. Additionally, he applauded the army’s agricultural and self-sufficiency projects, pledging his continued support for such initiatives.
