MBABANE- The Manzini Lions Club has ushered in a new chapter of leadership with the installation of Sammy Msibi as its new President. The announcement was made during a well-attended ceremony where Msibi shared an inspiring vision centred on strategic service, visibility, and community impact.
Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him, Msibi described his appointment as a call to serve with renewed purpose and unity. He pledged to lead the club in alignment with Mission 1.5, Lions International’s global initiative aimed at growing membership to 1.5 million. He stressed that this is not just a numbers game, but a way to expand the club’s ability to serve.
To guide the year ahead, Msibi announced that the club will begin by crafting an Annual Strategy Plan. The strategy will focus on Lions International’s five global causes diabetes, vision, hunger, environment, and childhood cancer with special emphasis on vision care and environmental sustainability.
Under his leadership, the club will launch vision screening campaigns targeting schools and rural areas, working with health professionals to help those with eyesight challenges. On the environmental front, members will lead tree planting and clean-up campaigns to promote sustainability.
Msibi reaffirmed the club’s commitment to feeding vulnerable children through community care points. He urged members to engage potential sponsors and businesses to support and expand this vital programme. He also highlighted the importance of the club’s presence at national events such as The Biggest Braai and community expos, stating that visibility is key to attracting support and new members.
One of the year’s flagship projects will be an expanded Childhood Cancer Walk, designed to raise both awareness and funds. The event will be hosted at a scenic trail, turning the walk into a symbolic and powerful experience for participants and supporters alike.
Msibi encouraged guests to consider joining the Lions movement, emphasising that service is a shared value open to all. “There is a place for everyone in service,” he said. “Together, we will serve with pride. Together, we will be seen. Together, We Serve.” With clear direction and strong leadership, the Manzini Lions Club is poised to deepen its impact and play a greater role in building a better Eswatini.
