MBABANE – Eswatini to become a key manufacturer of electric motorbikes and cars for the Southern Africa region and the USA, following a landmark partnership agreement between SkyFly Technologies and Akata.
The deal was officially announced this morning at a signing ceremony in Mbabane by SkyFly Chairman Lutfo Dlamini, Akata Chairman Alwyn Steenkamp, and SkyFly founder Musa Dlamini.
The venture aims to produce and assemble electric motorbikes within the Kingdom. It is expected to create 100 jobs in its first phase and more than 400 jobs when fully operational. The production will serve not only the local market but also neighbouring southern Africa and the USA.
According to Lutfo Dlamini, the executive chairman of SkyFly, explained that the move signals a dramatic shift for Eswatini’s future. The country Traditionally, motorcyclists have relied on filling stations for petrol, but this deal paves the way for a network of “pet swap stations” locations where motorcyclists can quickly exchange a discharged battery for a fully charged one reflecting a new era in green, convenient transport.
The TINBOT is a German brand motorcycle’s specifications include a 110/70 (road tyre) for the front and 100/80-17 (optional road tyre) for the rear, a ground clearance of 165mm, and a rechargeable lithium battery pack rated at 72 volts with a maximum current output of 75 amps.

Eswatini’s geographic location close to Mozambique, South Africa, and other key markets makes it an ideal hub for production and export. The country enjoys low tariff benefits while some neighbours face duties of up to 40% when exporting to the USA, Eswatini’s products attract just 10%. That advantage makes this venture a powerful opportunity for economic growth and employment.

With SkyFly and Akata at the helm, this venture promises not only to create jobs and skills but also to cut emissions, boost industry, and help Eswatini become a key hub for green vehicle manufacturing securing a more sustainable future for generations to come.
