BUHLENI – Her Majesty the Indlovukazi has called for the extension of the Buhleni dance arena, citing the growing numbers of Lutsango attending the annual Buganu Ceremony.

Speaking during the first leg of the 2026 Buganu Ceremony at Buhleni Royal Residence on Saturday, February 28, 2026, the Queen Mother noted that the event continues to gain momentum each year. She observed that the increasing attendance of Lutsango reflects the strengthening of cultural pride and commitment among emaSwati.

The Queen Mother expressed appreciation to Chiefs across the country for allowing Lutsango members to attend and participate in the ceremony. She said their support ensures that tradition remains vibrant and inclusive.

The Queen Mother highlighted that while the arena had recently been improved through the planting of green grass to provide better dancing conditions, it could need expansion to accommodate the swelling numbers. She emphasised that the current size of the arena limits comfort and movement during performances, especially as more Lutsango answer the royal call each year.

“The numbers continue to grow,” she indicated, pointing to the need for forward planning to preserve the dignity and smooth running of the ceremony. Extending the arena, she said, would ensure that Lutsango can perform freely and safely while maintaining the beauty and order that characterise the event.

The Buhleni Buganu Ceremony remains one of the Kingdom’s most cherished cultural gatherings, symbolising unity, thanksgiving and respect for heritage. The strong attendance this year has further demonstrated the enduring relevance of traditional ceremonies in modern Eswatini.

Her Majesty’s remarks signal a proactive approach to preserving and enhancing national traditions, ensuring that infrastructure keeps pace with cultural growth.

As the Buganu season progresses, the call to expand the Buhleni arena stands as a reflection of a thriving tradition — one that continues to unite the nation and draw increasing participation year after year.
