MBABANE– Shiselweni II Member of Parliament, Hon. Bhekithemba Bhembe, has raised concerns over delays in the release of funds meant for community development projects, questioning why the money is sometimes withheld even after it has already been allocated.
Hon. Bhembe made the remarks on March 10, 2026, while contributing to the budget debate before the House of Assembly Portfolio Committee.
The MP said delays in releasing funds continue to affect the implementation of development programmes in communities, despite the fact that some projects would have already been approved. According to him, such delays slow down progress and prevent communities from benefiting from development initiatives on time.
Bhembe further questioned why funds remain withheld even after they have been allocated for specific programmes. He said the situation creates frustration among communities that are expecting development projects to begin.
The legislator also raised concerns about delays in the approval of some development projects, noting that prolonged waiting periods discourage people who are willing to contribute to development efforts in their communities. He cited the Skhotseni area, saying once land has been allocated for development, projects should commence without unnecessary delays so that emaSwati can start benefiting.
In addition, Bhembe highlighted concerns about the quality of some structures built through the Empowerment Fund, saying there have been reports of buildings developing cracks and other structural problems. He emphasised the need for proper inspections to ensure infrastructure meets acceptable standards.
The MP also called for the effective use of the Poverty Fund, noting that it can help individuals and community groups through financial support such as loans, which would assist citizens in improving their livelihoods.
