MBABANE – Government has taken decisive action to end years of isolation in Manhlonhlweni by launching the construction of a 7.2-kilometre rigid pavement road, a project set to redefine access and opportunity in the area.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has appointed Basadi Construction to lead the development in Nkwene Inkhundla, signalling a firm commitment to delivering resilient infrastructure where it is needed most. Officials announced the project during a community event at Zamokuhle Primary School, where the Minister of Tinkhundla Administration, Honourable Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, joined local leaders and residents.
Information gathered on the Ministry’s Facebook page suggest that for years, residents have battled poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season, which has rendered routes impassable and disrupted daily life. Families have struggled to access healthcare, while learners have risked their safety to reach Zamokuhle Primary School. The unreliable road network has also limited movement between Manhlonhlweni and neighbouring communities such as Tholulwazi, slowing social and economic activity.
The Ministry has now moved to eliminate these barriers. It has set an eight-month timeline to complete the project and deliver a durable, all-weather road that will ensure safe, reliable and uninterrupted transport throughout the year. Engineers will construct the rigid pavement to withstand seasonal challenges and maintain consistent usability.
Government has positioned this development as part of a broader national drive to strengthen infrastructure and uplift rural communities. By improving connectivity, the project will unlock economic potential, support local businesses and create easier access to essential services.
Residents have embraced the initiative with optimism, recognising the immediate and long-term benefits it will bring. The new road will not only improve daily travel but will also restore dignity and confidence among community members who have long endured difficult conditions.
As construction begins, Manhlonhlweni is stepping into a new era, one defined by access, safety and progress. Where muddy and unreliable paths once slowed movement, a strong and dependable road will now carry the community forward.
