MANZINI– Eswatini has taken another bold step towards economic transformation following the official award of the construction tender for the long-awaited Manzini Mall project, a development expected to unlock thousands of jobs and stimulate investment in the country’s commercial capital.
Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Mancoba Khumalo announced the milestone as Government moved ahead with plans to establish one of the city’s major commercial developments. The tender was awarded to a joint venture between WBHO and J&E Manzini Mall Joint Venture, signalling the beginning of full-scale preparations for the ambitious project.
The announcement comes as Stefanutti Stocks finalises the platform for the temporary bus rank, a key process expected to clear the way for major construction works to begin in the coming weeks.
According to the Ministry, the construction phase is projected to continue until October 2027 and will employ approximately 3,000 people during the development period. The project is also expected to create opportunities for suppliers, transport operators, small businesses and service providers linked to the construction sector.
Khumalo described the project as a strategic investment that will strengthen Manzini’s position as a leading commercial hub while opening doors for broader economic activity. He also said that the Manzini Mall is expected to create about 1 500 permanent jobs upon completion.
He added that the development would play a significant role in attracting local and international investment while contributing to urban revitalisation in the city.
The project has already generated excitement among emaSwati, particularly young people seeking employment opportunities in the construction and retail sectors. Business leaders have also welcomed the development, saying it reflects growing investor confidence in Eswatini’s economy and future prospects.
Beyond employment creation, the mall is expected to improve the city landscape, expand retail opportunities and increase commercial activity in surrounding areas. Analysts believe developments of this scale can stimulate long-term economic growth by attracting complementary businesses and improving infrastructure.
Government has maintained that the project aligns with its broader vision of industrial growth, sustainable employment creation and economic diversification.
As machinery prepares to roll into Manzini, the development signals more than the construction of a shopping complex. For many emaSwati, it represents renewed hope for jobs, investment and a stronger economy.
