MBABANE – Eswatini has moved a decisive step closer to accelerating its digital transformation drive as government intensifies engagements with the World Bank Group to secure funding for the ambitious Eswatini Digital Transformation Project.
The project, pioneered through ongoing negotiations involving the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, seeks to modernise public service delivery while expanding digital access across the country.
Government says the initiative will place essential services directly into the hands of emaSwati through improved connectivity, smarter digital systems and strengthened cyber security infrastructure.
At the centre of the transformation agenda is the Government in Your Hand (GIYH) platform, which aims to simplify access to services that traditionally required long queues, paperwork and repeated visits to government offices.
Under the planned reforms, citizens will increasingly access services such as passport applications, business registration, vehicle licensing, health services, social support systems and education platforms through integrated digital channels.

The initiative is also expected to strengthen digital skills development and enhance the efficiency of government institutions as Eswatini positions itself for a more technology-driven economy.
Beyond improving convenience, the project carries significant national development potential. Government intends to bridge the digital divide by extending reliable and affordable internet connectivity to rural communities through fibre optic infrastructure, communication towers and emerging technologies.
This means schools, clinics, service centres and households in underserved areas could soon gain stronger access to digital tools and online services that support education, healthcare delivery and economic participation.
The development comes at a time when countries across Africa are accelerating digital reforms to improve governance, stimulate innovation and create opportunities for young people in the digital economy.
For Eswatini, the project signals more than technological advancement. It reflects a growing commitment to building an inclusive digital future where public services become faster, smarter and more accessible to every citizen regardless of location.
As discussions with the World Bank Group continue, expectations remain high that the initiative could unlock a new era of efficiency, connectivity and national progress, reinforcing Eswatini’s vision of becoming a competitive player in the rapidly evolving global digital landscape.
