NHLANGANO – Nhlangano Town Council says it remains committed to supporting all efforts towards recovery and restoration following the devastating fire that engulfed Pick n Pay at Nhlangano Mall on Sunday morning, May 24, 2026.
The fire, which reportedly broke out at around 3:30am, prompted a swift response from emergency services and stakeholders, with firefighters battling to contain the flames.
In a statement issued on May 24, 2026, the council confirmed that Eswatini Fire and Emergency Services, Swaziland Forest Company, Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC), Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) and other partners were quickly deployed to the scene.
The council commended emergency personnel for their rapid and professional response in protecting lives and nearby businesses during the incident.
“The Hon. Mayor, Councillors, Management and Staff of the Nhlangano Town Council express their deepest concern for all those affected by this incident including staff, business operators, tenants and the broader community that depends on this facility,” read part of the statement.
The municipality further stated that it stood with the people of Nhlangano during the difficult time and remained committed to supporting all efforts towards recovery and restoration.
While investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, initial reports from security personnel at the scene suggest a possible electrical fault. Authorities have urged members of the public to wait for official findings before drawing conclusions.
Police officers were also on the ground assisting with investigations and ensuring safety around the affected area as emergency crews continued operations.
The council highlighted the importance of Nhlangano Mall to the town’s economy and daily activities, expressing hope that affected businesses and workers would recover soon.
