MBABANE– After years of anticipation, the Nkwe Mpolonja community has officially taken ownership of a new E3.1 million multipurpose hall, a landmark investment expected to transform community development, skills training and social activities while standing as a testament to what government community partnership can achieve.
The Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, through the Microprojects Programme, officially handed over the Nkwe Mpolonja Multipurpose Hall on Thursday. Built over a period of 14 months, the modern facility accommodates up to 500 people and is set to become the community’s central venue for meetings, training programmes, social gatherings and other development initiatives.
The project was completed with strong community participation. As part of the required 10 percent contribution, residents made financial contributions, constructed a toilet facility and fenced the project site, reflecting a strong sense of ownership and commitment throughout the implementation process.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Microprojects Programme officials praised the Mpolonjeni community for its active involvement, noting that projects in the area are consistently completed efficiently because of residents’ commitment and the community’s clear development priorities.
Officials also informed community members that although the facility has now been officially handed over, the contractor will remain responsible for the project for the next six months under the Defects Liability Period. Any construction defects identified during this period will be repaired by the contractor at no additional cost to the community.
The ceremony included remarks from the Nkwe Mpolonja Chairperson, representatives of the Microprojects Programme, the Indvuna yeNkhundla, Member of Parliament Wilton Nkambule, and the Mpolonjeni Umphakatsi Chief. The event also featured cultural performances and celebrations as residents marked the completion of the long awaited community facility.
