MBABANE – What began with a shared dream and a few sewing machines is now inspiring hope in Motshane, where local artisans are proving that skills, teamwork and opportunity can change lives, one stitch at a time.
The rhythmic sound of sewing machines inside the Siyatentela KuMoMpo Cooperative workshop is becoming the heartbeat of a community determined to create opportunities instead of waiting for them.
During a visit on 14 July 2026, officials from the Youth Enterprise Revolving Fund (YERF) met with members of the cooperative in the Hilltop area of Mbabane to witness first-hand how a simple community initiative is growing into a promising small business with the potential to create jobs and uplift families.
The cooperative has become a shining example of what can happen when determination meets support. With assistance from the Member of Parliament for Motshane Inkhundla, Mr Wilton Nkambule, the group secured a dedicated workshop where they have transformed their passion for sewing into a thriving enterprise.
Today, the skilled artisans produce school uniforms, stylish dresses, bonnets and a range of other quality products that are steadily attracting customers while building confidence among the members.
For many of the cooperative members, the workshop represents much more than a place to sew. It is a place where dreams are stitched together, where skills are sharpened every day and where hope grows with every completed garment.
Recognising this potential, YERF engaged the cooperative in discussions on financial support that could help expand production, improve equipment and create employment opportunities for more people, particularly young entrepreneurs eager to enter the textile and fashion industry.
The visit also laid the foundation for an exciting partnership between YERF and the Motshane Member of Parliament. The two are preparing to host a community engagement programme aimed at introducing young people to entrepreneurship, business development opportunities and funding available through YERF.
The upcoming event is expected to inspire aspiring entrepreneurs to believe in their ideas while equipping them with practical information on how to turn those ideas into sustainable businesses.
As preparations continue, excitement is building across Motshane. For the members of Siyatentela KuMoMpo Cooperative, every garment they produce tells a story of resilience, hard work and community support. Their journey is proving that when communities invest in local talent, they do not simply create businesses they weave stronger futures for generations to come.
