MKHIWENI– Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with the launch and handover of the Ingelo Certification Scheme Production Cottages at Mkhiweni Inkhundla, a project designed to help entrepreneurs produce high-quality, standards-compliant products and access formal markets.
The first beneficiary of the initiative is Mgemane Chilies, owned by Nozipho Dlamini, who will use the modern production facility to expand her business and improve the quality and competitiveness of her chilli products. The production cottages were officially launched by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, who described the initiative as a practical demonstration of Government’s commitment to empowering local entrepreneurs and accelerating industrial development.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Minister said the purpose-built facilities would enable MSMEs to manufacture safe, high-quality products that meet national standards and compete in local and international markets. He noted that many small businesses struggle because they lack access to suitable production facilities, making the project a significant step towards improving business sustainability.
Khumalo further explained that the production cottages would operate on a rotational basis, allowing different entrepreneurs within the community to utilise the facilities over time. This approach, he said, will ensure that more businesses benefit from the programme, helping them grow while creating employment opportunities and stimulating local economic development. The Minister also acknowledged the collaboration between the Ministry, the Eswatini Standards Authority (ESWASA), the Small Enterprises Development Company (SEDCO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and other partners whose support made the initiative possible. “Partnership reflects a shared vision of strengthening product quality, promoting innovation, expanding market opportunities, and building a more competitive MSME sector capable of contributing meaningfully to the country’s economy” he said.
Receiving the facility, Nozipho Dlamini expressed appreciation for the opportunity, saying the production cottage would enable her business to increase production capacity while maintaining the quality standards required by consumers and retailers. Government believes the Ingelo Certification Scheme Production Cottages will encourage more entrepreneurs to formalise their businesses, obtain product certification, and produce goods that meet recognised quality standards. Officials also expressed confidence that the initiative will inspire aspiring entrepreneurs, especially women and youth, to invest in value-added production and contribute to Eswatini’s industrialisation and sustainable economic growth.
