MANZINI– For 356 learners from 12 schools across Eswatini, a new pair of school shoes has become more than just part of a school uniform – it has become a source of dignity, confidence and hope.
Through a joint initiative, FNB Eswatini and Buy ‘n Save SPAR have donated school shoes worth E52 950 to underprivileged learners, helping to ensure that children can continue attending classes comfortably during the winter season.
The initiative, which was launched through a partnership between the two organisations, saw both companies contribute equally towards the purchase of the footwear. The donation was officially handed over to the Ministry of Education and Training during a ceremony held at the FNB Eswatini head office in Ezulwini on July 16, 2026.
Last week, representatives from the two organisations travelled across the country to distribute the shoes to the selected schools, where teachers, parents and learners welcomed the gesture with gratitude.
Speaking at the conclusion of the distribution campaign, FNB Eswatini Chief Marketing Officer Sibusile Dlamini said the initiative was a reflection of the bank’s enduring commitment to the country’s development.
“As a business, we are unequivocal in our commitment to Eswatini, ‘Sitintile Eswatini futsi asiyindzawo.’ Therefore, as we operate in communities across the country, we want to remain mindful of the challenges our people face and, as much as possible, contribute towards sustainable solutions,” she said.
Dlamini said visiting the schools and interacting with learners had been a deeply rewarding experience.
“It has been heartwarming to go around the schools, meet the little stars of tomorrow and engage the teachers who play such a big role in developing our country,” she said.
Buy ‘n Save SPAR Risk and Compliance Officer Zeph Mziyako said the retailer remained committed to investing in initiatives that strengthened communities and improved lives.
“We are delighted that the donation we made has been delivered to the children at a time when the winter season still persists,” he said.
“Retailing is about fostering relationships with communities, and in every relationship, each party has a responsibility to ensure that it grows stronger. We are grateful to FNB for creating this opportunity for us to play our part in bringing warmth and changing lives.”
The impact of the initiative was evident in the appreciation expressed by educators, many of whom said the donation had arrived at a crucial time.
Lobamba National Primary School headteacher Andrew Dlamini said the support would ease the burden faced by many families.
“We would like to sincerely thank FNB Eswatini for considering us. Many of our children here come from disadvantaged backgrounds and lack basic necessities such as school shoes. It is easy for people to assume that, because we are located close to town, we do not experience these challenges, but we do. This support will go a long way,” he said.
Lomadvokola Primary School headteacher Sincobile Thwala said the donation had restored confidence and dignity among learners.
“I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to FNB and Buy ‘n Save SPAR for the generous donation of school shoes. This support came at a time when many of our learners were struggling to attend school comfortably and with dignity,” she said.
“Worn-out and ill-fitting shoes were affecting their confidence and participation in school activities. Now our learners have footwear that will protect them and allow them to focus on their studies. This donation goes beyond shoes; it represents hope, compassion and the belief that every child deserves an equal opportunity to succeed.”
The beneficiary schools included Lobamba National Primary School, Lomadvokola Primary School, Dlangeni Primary School, Ludzeludze Primary School, Phocweni Primary School, Ekuphileni Primary School, the School for the Deaf Primary School, Maphiveni Primary School, Mcuba Primary School, St Aidans Primary School, Mavalela Primary School and Ngololweni Primary School.
While the donation has provided warmth and comfort during the cold winter months, its greatest impact may be the message it has delivered to hundreds of young EmaSwati – that they are seen, valued and supported as they pursue their dreams.
