MBABANE – Standard Bank Eswatini is set to phase out its Unayo digital platform by December 31, 2026, as the bank moves to streamline its digital ecosystem and strengthen the delivery of secure and sustainable banking solutions.
The bank has announced a structured transition process which will be implemented in phases to minimise disruption to customers and ensure that affected users are guided through the migration to alternative banking solutions.
According to Standard Bank, the move forms part of its broader digital transformation strategy, which seeks to refine its digital services and respond to changing customer needs.
Customers have been encouraged to continue using Unayo until they receive specific communication from the bank outlining their migration arrangements and timelines.
The bank said customer funds and information would be appropriately managed throughout the transition, with affected clients receiving guidance on accessing or transferring their funds and completing the migration process.
Launched in September 2021, Unayo was introduced in Eswatini alongside Malawi, Lesotho and Botswana as part of Standard Bank’s efforts to expand digital financial inclusion.
The platform was designed to connect the informal market with formal financial services, providing users with access to banking and mobile money services through digital channels.
During its operation, Unayo enabled customers to conduct cash-ins and cash-outs, inter-account transfers, electronic funds transfers and bulk payments.
Users could also purchase airtime and data, pay water and electricity bills and use Unayo Vouchers to send money to recipients using local cellphone numbers.
The platform offered Lite, Pro and Merchant accounts, with digital onboarding available through its smart applications and USSD service by dialling *334#.
Standard Bank has also reminded customers to remain vigilant during the transition, stressing that the bank will never request a customer’s PIN, password or OTP.
Customers have been urged to rely only on information communicated through the bank’s official channels.
