MBABANE — From the bright lights of the MTN Bushfire Firefly stage to the intimate setting of an unplugged show, Eswatini Afropop trio Emagagu is building a musical journey that is as much about cultural identity as it is about the future.

The rising act is preparing to launch its official website on September 17, 2026, release a new single, “Tsatsa Khonkhe,” on September 25, and stage Emagagu Reimagined – Emagagu & Friends: The Unplugged Experience in Manzini on November 21, 2027.

Together, the projects represent a new chapter for a group that has quickly moved from being an emerging act to one of the most talked-about young names in Eswatini music.

Emagagu recently claimed all three top spots in the 2026 MTN Bushfire Firefly competition, emerging as one of the official winners alongside MCO Jamrock and JD.

The trio’s victory came after a standout performance of its song “Umtsimba WeMzala,” a track that has become closely associated with the group’s ability to blend traditional Eswatini sounds with modern Afropop rhythms.

The MTN Bushfire Firefly Grand Finale, hosted at House on Fire, placed Emagagu among the competition’s Top 10 performers before the group secured its place in the final Top 3.

The achievement earned Emagagu more than a title. As part of the prize package, the trio received a Samsung smartphone, a Lula Combo with 12 months of data and an MTN CallerTunez onboarding deal.

The group also gained valuable industry exposure through participation in the MTN Bushfire Arts Round Table, where it connected with music professionals and other creative practitioners.

That momentum continued onto some of Eswatini’s most recognised stages.

As part of its Firefly grand prize, Emagagu performed on the MTN Bushfire Festival stages from May 29 to 31, 2026. The trio also performed “Umtsimba WeMzala” on the Honeycomb stage at the Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival.

For a young act, the performances have provided an important platform to demonstrate that Emagagu’s music can move comfortably between competition stages, major festivals and more intimate live settings.

The group’s sound is rooted in the meeting point between tradition and modernity. Its music draws from Eswatini’s cultural textures, language and storytelling while using contemporary rhythms to create a sound that is accessible to a new generation of listeners.

That identity will continue to develop through the release of “Tsatsa Khonkhe,” which is already available for pre-save ahead of its official release.

The single is expected to introduce another side of Emagagu’s musical direction while retaining the act’s focus on African storytelling, cultural expression and live musical energy.

The website, www.emagagu.co.za, will provide a permanent digital home for the trio’s music, performances, announcements, news and future projects.

Fans can already visit the website to subscribe for updates. Subscribers will receive information about new releases, performances, tours and other developments directly from the act.

Beyond serving as a promotional platform, the website will also help document Emagagu’s growing archive. That archive includes the group’s recorded music, live performances, collaborations, promotional material and the stories connected to its development.

For Emagagu, preserving that journey is important. The trio’s story is no longer limited to individual songs or isolated stage appearances. It is becoming a broader creative brand with a growing catalogue, a recognisable visual identity and an expanding relationship with audiences.

The next major step in that relationship will be Emagagu Reimagined – Emagagu & Friends: The Unplugged Experience, scheduled for November 21, 2027, in Manzini.

The show will feature live instruments, storytelling, guest appearances and new arrangements of Emagagu’s songs.

Rather than presenting a standard concert, the unplugged experience will offer audiences a closer and more personal interpretation of the trio’s music. Familiar songs will be stripped back and reshaped, allowing listeners to hear the emotion, detail and stories behind the sound.

The concept also reflects Emagagu’s development as a live act. After performing on high-energy festival stages, the group will have an opportunity to slow the pace, create space for musical conversation and invite audiences into a more intimate version of its world.

According to Emagagu management, the website, single and unplugged show are connected parts of the group’s long-term creative plans.

“We are building a permanent home for Emagagu and everything the act represents. The website will help us preserve what we have achieved so far, while also giving our audience a place to follow the next chapter. ‘Tsatsa Khonkhe’ introduces new music, and Emagagu Reimagined will allow audiences to experience our songs in a completely different way,” management said.

The trio’s achievements so far have given it a strong foundation. Its MTN Bushfire Firefly victory brought national attention, while coverage from local media and radio platforms, including EBIS Radio, helped introduce Emagagu to wider audiences.

Its performances at House on Fire, the MTN Bushfire Festival and the Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival have further strengthened its reputation as an act capable of delivering both cultural depth and contemporary entertainment.

Now, Emagagu is using that momentum to build something more lasting.

The website will preserve the group’s story. “Tsatsa Khonkhe” will carry its sound into a new release cycle. The unplugged experience will reimagine its music for a live audience.

Together, the projects signal a move towards a more complete Emagagu experience — one that exists not only through recorded songs, but also through digital storytelling, festival stages, cultural expression and carefully crafted live performances.

With the website launch and single release scheduled for September 2026, followed by the unplugged show in November 2027, Emagagu is positioning itself for a new phase of growth.

The trio may still be upcoming, but its journey is already gathering the scale, confidence and creative ambition of an act ready to move from Eswatini to a much wider world.
