MANZINI – Arts and culture emerged as central pillars in Eswatini’s evolving education system during the official launch of the third annual Inyatsi Schools Arts and Culture Competition, held on May 22, 2026, at Inyatsi House in Manzini.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Training, Inspector of Schools Bongani Siyaya said the programme comes at a crucial time as the country advances the implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum. He explained that the new education model moves beyond traditional academic learning by placing greater emphasis on practical skills, innovation, creativity, and real-world competencies.
“Arts and culture are no longer just extra-curricular activities — they are now a recognised and essential part of the curriculum,” Siyaya said.
He noted that the competition, coordinated by the Schools Arts and Culture Association in partnership with the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture, provides learners with platforms to showcase critical competencies such as creativity, collaboration, communication, confidence, and critical thinking.
Supported by the Inyatsi Foundation alongside partners including the Eswatini Network of Women, Imisebe Publishers, and Genesis, the initiative seeks to extend learning beyond classroom walls while nurturing artistic talent from an early age.
Siyaya said the programme not only helps learners discover their abilities, but also creates pathways into the growing creative industry, which continues to contribute meaningfully to national development. He further highlighted that arts and culture activities strengthen patriotism and help young emaSwati remain connected to their cultural identity.
The Ministry also commended teachers for embracing the new approach to education and thanked stakeholders for their continued support in aligning learning with the demands of the 21st century. Learners were encouraged to approach the competition seriously, viewing it as an opportunity to grow, build confidence, and prepare for future careers.
Now in its third year, the competition has become an important platform in empowering young emaSwati through the transformative power of the arts. Organisers confirmed that all logistical arrangements, including transport, are being coordinated through the office of the Schools Manager to ensure the programme’s success.
