MBABANE – Young people from different parts of Eswatini gathered at CODEC in Ezulwini for a youth empowerment programme hosted by Liyakhanya Charity Organisation, where they were encouraged to strengthen their mental well-being, build healthy relationships and become responsible leaders in their communities.
Held under the theme “Building Stronger Minds, Safer Communities & Purposeful Relationships,” the event brought together motivational speakers, youth leaders and representatives from the Royal Eswatini Police Service to equip young people with knowledge and practical life skills needed to navigate today’s challenges.
Speaking during the event, Liyakhanya Charity Organisation Founding Director Thabiso Bhembe said the initiative was designed to help young people understand themselves better and prepare for the realities of modern life. He explained that the theme was inspired by the increasing cases of abuse and the breakdown of relationships, adding that many people enter relationships without understanding their purpose, values and responsibilities.
Representatives from Kwakha Indvodza urged participants not to allow money to become the foundation of their relationships. They emphasised that meaningful relationships should be built on respect, trust and shared values rather than financial benefits, saying that healthy relationships contribute to stronger families and communities.
Motivational speaker Samkelisiwe Mabuza encouraged young people to maintain a positive mindset regardless of the hardships they encounter. She said every challenge presents an opportunity for growth, resilience and personal development, urging participants to remain hopeful while pursuing their dreams.
Representing the Royal Eswatini Police Service, Mfanyana Dlamini called on young people to report all forms of abuse instead of remaining silent. He reminded participants that posting another person’s pictures or personal information on social media without their permission is against the law and encouraged victims to seek justice through the proper legal channels.
The programme also featured an interactive question-and-answer session, where Jabulile Matsebula assisted in addressing concerns raised by participants on issues affecting young people.
Meanwhile, YOUTHLET Founding Director Paul Nkambule challenged young people to embrace leadership by building strong personal brands that reflect integrity, discipline and responsibility. He said young people who uphold their dignity are more likely to earn respect and become positive influences within their communities.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from participants to become agents of positive change by promoting safer communities, purposeful relationships and stronger minds across Eswatini.
